Activities Support Worker

You will be helping to transform the lives of people on the autistic spectrum and their families by helping with activities organised by Creatovators.
Creatovators organises a monthly Play Scheme and sessional Lego®-based Therapy Sessions. We are looking for volunteers to help set up the rooms, chat to families, work/play with the children and help tidy up. The Play Scheme is fairly relaxed and informal, and volunteers are asked to listen to parents and carers and/or play with the children. During the Lego®-based Therapy Sessions volunteers will be responsible for helping the children learn to be calm, talk and listen to each other, cooperate and play with each other. This is done as they work in teams to build Lego models. There is potential for volunteers to take part in additional services as Creatovators grows.

Experience required

• Good communication skills – listening and written.
• Ability to work well with children.
• Reliable – able to make a regular commitment to volunteering.
• Patient.
• Empathic towards the families and their situations.
• Awareness of confidentiality issues and child protection.
• Ability to use their own initiative.
• An open attitude.
• Experience of working with people on the autistic spectrum.
Volunteers need to be able to cope with challenging situations.
