OPAL works across the Scottish Borders to reduce social isolation and help older people maintain independence and well-being. Our dedicated volunteers provide encouragement, companionship, and support so that older people can enjoy social, leisure, and community activities.
Overview
Make a real difference in the lives of older people by bringing joy, friendship, and connection. As a Group Volunteer, you’ll gain fulfilling experiences, make new friends, and develop valuable skills in communication and teamwork—all while giving back to your community.
Role Description
As a Group Volunteer, you’ll support older people who are looking to reconnect socially. You’ll work closely with the OPAL Coordinator to create a welcoming, lively environment where everyone feels included.
Purpose:
• Bring joy and friendship to older people in the community.
• Help attendees reconnect socially and feel included.
• Gain personal fulfilment and develop communication and teamwork skills.
Role Summary:
• Support older people in community activities.
• Liaise with the OPAL Coordinator for guidance and coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
• Organise and assist with games, quizzes, exercises, and crafting activities.
• Engage with attendees in a lively, welcoming, and stimulating environment.
• Help set up and clear away materials.
• Chat with attendees during tea/coffee breaks to encourage social interaction.
Skills & Attributes:

Travel expenses
