Board member

As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in helping guide the strategic direction of Castle Enterprise Scotland, ensuring that the organisation fulfil their mission and values while meeting their legal and financial responsibilities. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a difference in their community and who wants to contribute their skills and experience at a governance level.

There are 10 meetings a year which are held either in Glenrothes, Cupar or remote.

Experience required

Strong communication and interpersonal skills. A commitment to Castle Enterprise’s mission and values. Ability to think strategically and work collaboratively. Willingness to learn and engage with charity governance and development.

Travel expenses

Board members can claim reasonable travel expenses by completing a volunteer expenses form. Mileage is reimbursed at £0.45 per mile, and public transport costs are reimbursed at the standard rate upon submission of receipts. Expenses are processed promptly once the form is submitted, usually within a week.

Support
Training details

Ongoing support is provided through regular board meetings, access to senior staff for guidance, and opportunities to attend relevant training sessions. Board members are also encouraged to participate in external workshops and networking events to strengthen their knowledge and skills.

The organisation foster a supportive environment where experienced board members mentor new ones, and all trustees have the chance to raise questions or request additional guidance at any time.

Taster

All new board members are given an induction that includes an introduction to the organisation’s mission, values, strategic priorities, and legal responsibilities as trustees/board members. They receive copies of the organisations governing documents, recent annual reports, and key policies.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 18
due to legal and contractual requirements, as board members are legally responsible for company operations, finances, and legal compliance.
