Outreach Nursing Support Volunteer

Why we want you:
Nursing Support Volunteers will assist our CHAS at Home team in families own homes. You will work closely with the staff providing an 'extra pair of hands' as well as providing high quality care to children and young people. By volunteering with the CHAS at Home team you will be helping CHAS to provide the highest quality care and support for children and families.
"The service that you offer at home - it is just so much more than respite. For us it feels like an extension of our family coming into help and bringing joy and fun into our lives. The CHAS at Home team are a very special and unique group of individuals that I have never found elsewhere, nothing is too much trouble and they don't see challenges only possibilities. Truly amazing!" (Quote from a CHAS family member)

What You Will Be Doing
Helping to care for a child in their own home, alongside a member of staff. Undertaking personal care, moving and handling of people and equipment.
You may also be asked to assist with play activities: spending time with a child-play, storytelling, watching a movie.

The Skills You Need:
Experience of working in (or towards) a care or clinical role, or personal experience of a caring role. Understanding of working with children with complex needs. An ability to relate to people of all ages and backgrounds. Good communication skills both verbal and written.
Empathy, sensitivity, non-judgmental. Adhere to rules around GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and an understanding of the importance of confidentiality.

Training details

You will need a full driver's license and access to a car to travel to family homes. There is an opportunity to gain additional training to drive CHAS vehicles to assist with outings for children and families. This is not essential but chat to us if you are interested.

If you do not have an up to date Moving and Handling Scottish Passport, we can provide this training (two full days). This is mandatory for this role

It’s important to us that you feel happy, safe and confident during your time with us. As a CHAS volunteer you will be invited to complete induction training, and a short core learning package that is tailored to your role.
Your Volunteer Co-ordinator will provide ongoing support and guidance to you. We have also partnered with the Skills Network to offer all our volunteers the chance to develop new skills and explore further learning opportunities.
We have an Assistance Programme provided by Health Hero to support our volunteers with all aspects of their lives, whether that is at work or at home. This is confidential and free of charge.

This role requires membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Group Scheme (children and adults). There is a simple form to complete and we will assist you with this. You may already be a member of the scheme – if so you will only need to complete an update form. The process won’t cost you anything and having a criminal record will not automatically exclude you from volunteering. We will assess each applicant on an individual basis.
