· Carrying out training related to the role and keep updated with ongoing changes to benefits
· Interviewing clients while filling lengthy forms to obtain benefits that the client is entitled to
· Explaining the application processes, GDPR guidelines and the rights to appeal to the client
· Listening carefully to the client’s situation while deciphering the relevant information
· Writing clearly and concisely in precise detail about the client’s circumstances
· Identifying underlying issues for the provision of holistic advice
· Compiling clear and concise case notes while following up to date GDPR guidelines consistently
· Reliably attending any arranged appointments, normally on a weekly rota basis
Experience required
Commitment to the mission, aims and values of Dalkeith CAB is important, including confidentiality. The ability to engage sensitively with people who are vulnerable and/or in distressing situations. Effective verbal and written communication skills with a good understanding of the English language. Confidence in using IT and a willingness to learn new skills. The ability to maintain strong boundaries. To practice self-awareness while working respectfully with clients, staff and other volunteers.
Travel details
Dalkeith is serviced by bus, train and there is a free car park on Old Edinburgh Road in Dalkeith. Volunteers are reimbursed for travel expenses monthly or Bi-weekly for car fuel or travel on public transport. Volunteers must retain evidence of their public transport expenses.

Support
Training details
You’ll receive training and full support from our experienced staff team and volunteers. Support and Supervision will be carried out with the Volunteer Manager. Training takes place in a supportive learning environment at Dalkeith CAB. We have robust training Adviser Training Programme that is recognised at SCQF level 6. The volunteer must be willing to undertake continuous training and feedback and will have regular support and supervision available. We provide mixture of self-directed online learning, shadowing and finally practical experiences for the development of volunteer roles. We can also supply upskilling courses suited to the volunteer role needs for professional development.

Availability
Volunteers (aged 16-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
