Volunteer Driver – More Than a Journey: Supporting Veterans

Volunteer Drivers Needed – Make Every Journey Matter

Vector24 is a Scottish charity supporting members of the Armed Forces Community, Merchant Navy and Seafarers, including their families, across the whole of Scotland. We provide free, holistic transport support and intelligent signposting to ensure no one faces life’s challenges alone.

We are looking for Volunteer Drivers who can use their own vehicle to help individuals reach vital appointments, access wellbeing and mental health support, reconnect with loved ones, and overcome isolation.

Every journey with Vector24 is personal. Our volunteers don’t just provide transport – they offer reassurance, compassion and a listening ear at times when it matters most.

What you’ll be doing:

Driving individuals to medical, wellbeing or social appointments
Offering friendly, respectful support throughout the journey
Helping reduce isolation and remove practical barriers to support

Commitment & Timing

We understand that volunteers have different levels of availability. This role is designed to be flexible:

Volunteer driving is arranged around your availability
Journeys typically take place during weekdays, with times agreed in advance
You can choose how often you volunteer — whether that’s occasional journeys or regular support
There is no minimum long-term commitment required, but reliability for agreed journeys is essential

Your availability and preferences will be discussed with you so the role fits alongside your other commitments.

What we’re looking for:

A reliable vehicle in good condition
A full driving licence and appropriate insurance
A caring, non-judgemental attitude
Commitment to confidentiality and safeguarding

Support You’ll Receive

You will not be expected to do this alone. As a Vector24 volunteer, you’ll receive:

Induction and role-specific guidance to help you feel confident and prepared
Ongoing support from a dedicated, values-driven team
Clear information about safeguarding, confidentiality and boundaries
Training and uniform provided, where required
A named point of contact for questions, check-ins and support
Reimbursement of mileage expenses so you are never out of pocket

We aim to create a supportive, respectful volunteering experience where you feel valued and listened to.

What we offer:

Mileage expenses paid
Flexible volunteering to fit around your availability
Full support from a dedicated, values-driven charity
The chance to make a real, tangible difference in people’s lives

If you believe that no veteran, serving person or family member should be left behind, we’d love to hear from you.

If you are interested, please click the ‘Apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out, then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow on info@volunteerglasgow.org

Join Vector24 and help drive change – one journey at a time.
