This role will support the activity of a social group that enjoys a variety of table top activities from musical quizzes, games, playing indoor bowls; indoor putting and making friends and memories over a cuppa. People living with dementia, their family and friends and anyone with an interest in dementia can attend this activity group. The role will include:
Offering a warm welcome to people who attend.
Help making the teas/coffees and serving these.
Working as part of a team with the staff and volunteers at this group.
Listening and interacting with people living with dementia, family members who attend the group and taking part in the activities.
Keeping up to date with Alzheimer Scotland news and their work across Scotland and being an ambassador for their services telling people what support they offer.
Experience required
Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to recognise and respect the rich diversity that exists within our communities, views, attitudes and lifestyles.
Committed to Alzheimer Scotland’s values.
Willing to follow our guidance, feedback and implement changes to practice where necessary.
Travel details
The Community Activity Group takes place at the Parkgate Community Centre, 23 Parkgate, Rosyth, KY11 2JW on a weekly basis – every Wednesday.
Travel expenses
They will reimburse public transport expenses as long as the volunteer keeps the receipts. They will reimburse fuel mileage (45 p per mile) when the volunteer uses their own vehicle. These will be reimbursed monthly.
Support
Training details
The volunteer with have a volunteer induction training session with the Volunteer Co-Ordinator. Then ongoing training relevant to the volunteer role and corporate policies e.g. Dementia Friends training; Brain Health training. The volunteer will receive regular information and have regular contact with the Volunteer Co-Ordinator through email and phone calls in support of their volunteer role and as part of the Alzheimer Scotland Volunteer Group. This is explained at the induction session.

Minimum age: 16
Availability
Volunteers (aged 16-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
