Kids Time Dundee

The KidsTime Workshop is a unique model, designed to support children whose parents experience mental health challenges, including severe mental illness. It is a safe place where families come together, offering a unique blend of theory and practical tools to help children understand their parents' conditions while fostering healthier family dynamics.

The primary objectives of KidsTime workshops are to:

· Provide children with clear and age-appropriate explanations of their parents’ mental health challenges and behaviours, reducing confusion and fear· Address the emotional struggles children face by offering insights into mental illness and its treatment, helping them cope with uncertainty and stigma· Create a safe space for parents to engage in open discussions about their mental health with their children, promoting understanding and connection· Empower parents by helping them rediscover their strengths, confidence, and parenting skills, improving family interactions· Support children in experiencing positive responses from their parents, contributing to a more nurturing and supportive environment· Encourage children and young people to engage in enjoyable, developmentally appropriate activities that help them thrive outside of the family challenges

KidsTime workshops usually take place in family-friendly community settings, such as Children's Centres or Family Hubs. Dedicated teams of local staff, trained by Our Time are on hand to answer questions, run activities, and guide discussions. With the same familiar venue, friendly faces, and consistent structure every month, families can quickly find comfort and a sense of belonging.

The KidsTime Workshop is committed to improving the wellbeing of both parents and children, ensuring that families affected by mental illness can experience healthier relationships and better overall outcomes.
