Volunteer Adviser

Some of the tasks that you will carry out as part of your role;

· Complete the Adviser Training programme required to carry out the Advice role

· Provide effective and efficient advice to members of the public


· Interview clients and practise respectful inquisition to identify underlying issues, for the provision of holistic advice


· Finding, interpreting and communicating information to clients via phone, email or in person


· Empowering clients to act by providing accurate information both verbally and in writing


· Entering client data on our case management system promptly and accurately, ensuring all information is processed in line with Bureau policies including Confidentiality and Data Protection.


Experience required

· The ability to maintain strong boundaries and practice self-awareness while working amicably with clients, staff and other volunteers.
· To be open, approachable and impartial while following Bureau policies and guidelines
· Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
· Ability to sift through information and extract what is relevant
· Ability to use IT and/or willing to learn new systems. Entering client data on our case management system promptly and accurately, ensuring all information is processed in line with bureau policies including confidentiality and Data Protection.

Dalkeith is serviced by bus, train and there is a free car park on Old Edinburgh Road in Dalkeith.

Training details

Training takes place in a supportive learning environment at Dalkeith CAB. We have robust training Adviser Training Programme that is recognised at SCQF level 6. The volunteer must be willing to undertake continuous training and feedback and will have regular support and supervision available. We provide mixture of self-directed online learning, shadowing and finally practical experiences for the development of volunteer roles. We can supply extra upskilling courses tailored to the volunteer and for professional development.
