Community Workshop

CLEAR offers opportunities for local people to volunteer in its community workshop at 47 Sandwell Street, Buckhaven.

These sessions run on Wednesdays and Thursdays every week from 10.am-3.00pm, supervised by a CLEAR staff member or lead volunteer. All volunteers are provided tea and coffee at both the morning and the afternoon sessions. A healthy lunch is also provided for all volunteers.

The small workshop has tools and equipment for woodwork and crafts of various types, as well as a well-equipped Bike Workshop where repairs for the wider public are carried out.

The Wood Workshop produces a range of different items such as planters, bird & bat boxes, signs and garden furniture. Opportunities to learn basic wood working skills and use of tools are offered, most wood is recycled pallets or donated wood so the role can often be varied at each session.

The Bike Workshop offers opportunities to learn how to maintain and repair bikes, break down components and recycled materials from donated bikes.

Most of this voluntary activity is carried out in the workshop or yard, but may also involve working outdoors in the two community gardens and other sites installing items or carrying out repairs

Experience required

Good listening skills and be able to work as part of the team. Previous Bike or woodwork experience would be a bonus but not necessary as all training will be provided. Staff will be on hand to demonstrate and support

throughout. A flexible individual with a good sense of humour happy to pitch in and have a can-do attitude would fit in well with the team.
